Livelihood Improvement Projects Handed Over to Communities!

Heineken Ethiopia, in collaboration with its implementing partner Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development (MSD), has handed over a new animal fattening and food processing project aimed at uplifting poor households in Kilinto through sustainable livestock-based and small business income generation.

With a total investment of 33 million birr, this project will directly benefit 75 households; 30 in Kilinto and 45 in Koye Fetche. Beneficiaries will be actively engaged in animal fattening, dairy farming, cattle rearing, poultry, and small-scale businesses, which are crucial sectors for local food security and economic resilience.

The main goal of the project is to enhance household incomes at the grassroots level, particularly among poor families. By equipping participants with livestock, feed, veterinary support, and food processing skills, the initiative is expected to significantly boost livelihoods and foster community development.
This initiative is designed not only to augment income-generating capacities but also to nurture entrepreneurship opportunities and social cohesion within the targeted areas, underscoring Heineken’s commitment to sustainable community development.

Beneficiaries and their needs were identified through a comprehensive needs assessment and selection criteria by a team from Heineken, MSD, community members, and the government, with special consideration given to women, women-headed households, and individuals with disabilities due to their vulnerable status.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Heineken Ethiopia’s Managing Director, Bart De Keninck, emphasized the transformative impact of livestock farming on rural and peri-urban communities. They pledged continued support through technical training, market linkages, and sustainable management practices to ensure the project’s long-term success.
