In Bedele, 30 families will soon live under safe and dignified roofs, while 22 others will gain steady income through sustainable livelihood support.
Heineken Ethiopia, in partnership with the local government and Jimma University, officially launched two major community development initiatives last week—together worth 39 million birr.
The launch event was attended by Ato Aman, Buno Bedele Zonal Administrator; Ato Tsegaye Teshome, Mayor of Bedele; Dr. Jemal Abafita, President of Jimma University; and more than 150 community members.
The Derash Shelter Project, launched in collaboration with Buno Bedele Zonal Administration, will construct 30 homes with shared kitchen and latrine facilities for vulnerable households. It is expected to create over 100 local construction jobs. This marks Heineken Ethiopia’s sixth Derash Shelter project, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to community impact.
Additionally, the Livelihood Improvement Project, implemented in partnership with Jimma University, supports 22 families with livestock and training to help them build sustainable incomes.
Heineken Ethiopia’s total contribution to the Bedele community now exceeds 229 million birr: covering local administration support, community programs, and long-term environmental initiatives.
For Heineken Ethiopia, real growth means growing together with communities, not in isolation.
